Courtesy of Dileep Premachandran, here is by far the most even-headed account and commentary on the IPL so far.
Read it. Absorb it. And come back for Outside
the Line's verdict on the league later in the week.

I'm not sure an article that sneers at the perfectly reasonable worries about the IPL's effect on test cricket is "even-headed". With the amount of money involved, the marketing, the involvement of corporate franchises, does Premchandran really think this is not going to push test cricket? Does Premchandran really imagine that the impact on a whole generation of television viewers over the next few years (including the players who he imagines will continue to remain die-hard test fans) will not skew the BCCI's, and thus concomitantly, the world's cricketing bodies' priorities? I'm glad he finds it "amusing".

I meant to say even-handed, but who wants an uneven head, anyway?
I agree with you, Samir, that Premachandran was a tad too dismissive in his tone, but on the whole I tend to agree with his sentiment. I don't think Test cricket's existence is threatened at all, but obviously it will adapt and change to the new environment. Maybe for the better, maybe for the worse, who knows? It all depends on who's judging it.
